DeKALB – A proposal to demolish the vacant apartment building at 912 Edgebrook Drive might be presented to the DeKalb City Council for consideration as early as March, to Public Works Director Tim Holdeman said.

During Monday’s meeting, Holdeman said nine bids had come in for the project, ranging from $311,000 to $595,000.

Public works plans to bring a recommendation to council at its March 12 meeting, Holdeman said.

In November, the city agreed to buy the property for $192,000 plus title insurance costs. According to a petition filed by the city calling for the site's previous owner, Pat Bragg, to remediate or demolish the building, the estimated market value of the property is $65,000.

The 47-unit building was condemned in 2014 because of a growing number of unsafe conditions, including a lack of functional plumbing, collapsing ceilings and mold issues.

The hope is to find a use for the property that will be in line with the Annie Glidden North revitalization plan.

A number of ideas have been considered for the site, including a residential parking lot.
