Daniel B. Woodward

DIXON – Daniel Barryon Woodward of Dixon, passed away in the afternoon of Saturday, March 3, 2018, suddenly and unexpectedly.

He was born March 1, 1949, in Chicago, to Louis and Virginia (Archer) Woodward, he was the fourth of their eight children.

Dan worked in the ball bearing industry for 50 years, his reputation as “Dan the Bearing Man” was pristine. He went to great lengths to ensure his customers felt more like family, and their needs were his priority. Dan earned an associate engineering degree from Triton College, and was a proud and active alumni of West Leyden High School. Dan had a passion for music and performance, and as a longtime member of Rock River Valley Barbershop Chorus, he was honored as Barbershopper of the Year twice. He performed in numerous musicals at Dixon theater, where he enthusiastically shined on stage. Most recently he crooned sweethearts with singing valentines this past Feb. 14. He enjoyed running from youth until his final day, participating regularly in local running events each year. He was active, vibrant, loving, and genuine. He strived with every interaction to make people happy and entertained.

Dan fiercely loved his children and grandchildren; tenderness and joy always were present when he could be surrounded by them. He could make fun and games for them anywhere and with anything; he made their worlds magical. His concern and care for others always was overflowing, big or small, he took personal responsibility for his friends’ and family’s well-being. Making sure neighbors had clear drives in winter, and checking your smoke detectors when he visited, was part of his charm.

Jan was the love of his life and best friend, their obvious, playful, and long romance is something a couple should aspire to. Having a relationship like this radiates to those closest to them and always made things brighter and more exciting when they were together. He will be sorrowfully missed and lovingly remembered.

He is survived by his wife, Jan (Webster) Woodward; by his brother, Cary Woodward; sisters, Charline Woodward and Addie Woodward; by his children, Daniel Woodward Jr., Eric Woodward, Katherine (Woodward) Horton, Brandon Woodward, and Courtney (Woodward) Bond; and by his
13 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by both his parents; bothers, Louis Woodward, Ray Woodward, and Gary Woodward; and by his sister, Sandra (Woodward) Uslton.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon, followed by a 6 p.m. reflection and prayer service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Rock River Valley Barbershop Chorus.
