Joseph Peacock receives award

PERU — On March 2, the Princeton-IL chapter for the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) held a luncheon honoring all the nominees who submitted essays for the 2018 Good Citizens program and to congratulate the winner. During this luncheon it was announced that St. Bede senior Joseph Peacock was chosen as the recipient for the DAR Good Citizenship Award.

Peacock was selected for the DAR award based on his ability to show courtesy to others, loyalty, truthfulness and self-control; with the ability to assume responsibility. The DAR Good Citizenship Award is presented annually to an outstanding senior based on dependability, leadership, service to their school and community, and patriotism.

Peacock was also awarded the DAR Outstanding Cadet Medal, a first in the history of the Princeton chapter. This award recognizes outstanding student cadets participating in non-ROTC, military-affiliated cadet programs and is funded by a private organization. He is a member of the Civil Air Patrol Cadets Corps and was nominated by his unit commander, 1st Lt. Matthew Denner of the Illinois Valley Cadet Squadron. The medal recognizes a cadet that has distinguished him or herself through outstanding leadership, honor, service, courage and patriotism.

He is the son of Jeffery and Kay Peacock of Princeton and a graduate of St. Louis Catholic Grade School. He was presented with a certificate for both awards, a DAR pin, a wallet recognition card, a DAR Outstanding Cadet medallion and a new U.S. flag.
