TIMONIUM, Md. – Donald R. Doty, 86, of Timonium, formerly of Amboy, died Thursday, March 8, 2018, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Lombard.
He was born May 30, 1931, in Amboy, the son of Paul A. and Glendora (Seguin) Doty. He attended the University of Arkansas, graduating in 1953 with a degree in zoology. Don was an avid genealogist, and meticulously traced his family lineage back to the 1600s. He was fascinated with the Cuban people and their culture, and took many educational trips to Cuba during the past 20 years.
He served in the Army and Army Reserves as a medical lab specialist from 1955 to 1963. Don worked for National Gypsum as a quality supervisor and market service manager. He traveled all over the country while working for National Gypsum. He met and married Mary Lou Albright in 1974 in California. They eventually settled in Timonium, where they lived until his death.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Mary Lou Albright Doty; and nine nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Marian Doty Gehlmann; his brother, Paul A. Doty Jr.; and his nephew, Donald J. Doty.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Prairie Repose Cemetery in Amboy, with the Rev. Mark Glenn, officiating. Military rites will be accorded by the Amboy American Legion. Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy is handling arrangements.
