Crystal Lake gun range offers free concealed carry classes to teachers

On Target will reserve 2 free seats for school employees at each course

CRYSTAL LAKE – A Crystal Lake gun range is waiving course fees for teachers who want a jump-start on potential legislation that would allow them to have a concealed carry weapon in the classroom.

On Target Range and Tactical Training Center, 560 Beechcraft Lane, Crystal Lake, will reserve two complimentary seats for school employees in each of its concealed carry classes, co-owner Judy Claxton said.

“While it is possible that federal and/or state funds may become available for this training in the future, we feel that time is of the essence,” Claxton said.

The value of the two-day class is $225. Attendance requires a personal handgun, school identification card, firearm owner’s identification card, 100 rounds of ammunition, high traction footwear, a holster and a sturdy belt.

Personal handguns can be made available for attendees who don’t have their own. Ammunition and magazines must be brought from home or bought at On Target, Claxton said.

On Target offers three full 16-hour concealed carry classes each month, two of which are during the weekend.

Upcoming class schedules are March 19 to 20 and 24 to 25, and April 7 to 8 and 16 to 17.

To register for the complimentary seats, school employees can call 815-477-2020.
