Tiffany Davis elected to retain 22nd Circuit Court judgeship

WOODSTOCK – Tiffany Davis will keep her appointed seat as a 22nd Circuit Court judge, according to unofficial election results.

Davis, R-Woodstock, received 4,239 votes, or 56 percent of the unofficial totals, securing her spot over Associate Judge Joel Berg, who hoped to unseat her for circuit judge.

“I feel blessed to have been appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court, and to have had the opportunity to run for the position of circuit judge,” Davis said Tuesday night. “I’m very grateful to the McHenry County voters in my subcircuit who voted for me.”

The Illinois Supreme Court appointed the former prosecutor in 2017 to succeed retired Judge Charles Weech.

Berg, who garnered 3,265 votes, or 44 percent, was appointed associate judge of the 22nd Judicial Circuit in 2011. He had hoped his six years of judicial experience would trump Davis’ six months spent in traffic and family court. There, she oversaw matters such as orders of protection and child support matters.

“I think [the results] reflect that the voters feel that I am highly qualified to be a circuit judge and fulfill those duties in McHenry County based upon my prior experience,” Davis said.

The hopeful Republican nominee comes to the bench with 22 years of prosecutorial experience under her belt, and spent time serving as a civil litigation associate handling family law and small claims in DuPage County.

Davis has said she’s comfortable allowing cameras in the courtroom with certain procedural safeguards in place, and feels the Bail Reform Act is “just one cog in the wheel toward the goal of equality.”

“My motto is “There’s a time to be compassionate and there’s a time to be tough, but it’s always time to be fair,’ ” Davis said.
