SYCAMORE – A 26-year-old DeKalb man posted $300 to get out of jail, a fraction of what he previously needed to post, shortly after a jury found him guilty of two of five charges he faced, court records show.
Police have said Kirby D. Brame held a gun to his girlfriend’s head at their apartment in December 2016 in the 1000 block of Ridge Drive, before trying to choke her the next morning when she tried to escape the apartment, even contemplating jumping from the roof.
A jury found Brame guilty of unlawful restraint and domestic battery Thursday, and he’ll be sentenced at 1:30 p.m. May 21.
Brame was found not guilty on charges of armed violence and not guilty of domestic violence causing bodily harm.
Brame was represented by public defender Robert Carlson, who had his trial of Andre P. Cross-Boler pushed back indefinitely because both were supposed to start this week.
Brame previously was held on $100,000 bond, before his conviction on the two counts.
Cross-Boler, of the 800 block of West Taylor Street, faces charges of aggravated criminal sexual assault, home invasion and residential burglary. Both home invasion and aggravated criminal sexual assault typically are punishable by six to 30 years in prison. If he is found guilty of all the charges against him, he must serve 85 percent of each sentence consecutively, adhering to the state’s Truth in Sentencing law.
Cross-Boler’s trial is set to begin at 10 a.m. May 15 – exactly three years after he was arrested.
Judge Philip Montgomery ruled that while Brame is free on bond, he’s not allowed to leave the state, court records show.
