Terry L. Heeren

ROCK FALLS – Terry L. Heeren, 70, of Rock Falls, died Friday, April 6, 2018, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Terry was born Sept. 10, 1947, in Princeton, the son of Fred “Pete” and Rita (Saathoff) Heeren. He was a 1965 graduate of Newman Central Catholic High School in Sterling. Terry served in the Navy during the Vietnam War, and later was employed as head of the mailroom at the Rockford Register Star for 43 years. He was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan, with a love for music like no other. He was all about peace, love, and one day at a time.

Survivors include his mother, Rita Heeren of Princeton; two daughters, Jody (Kevin Shook) Heeren of Rock Falls and Heather Bertolozzi of Sterling; three sons, Andrew (Jenny Roberts) Heeren and Terry Heeren, both of Rock Falls, and Jerry Heeren of Peoria; two sisters, Penny (Joe) Transou of Ohio, Illinois, and Paula (Dennis) Hays of Hooppole; one brother-in-law, Jack Transou of Princeton; and nine grandchildren, Tabitha Nash, Sebastian Heeren, Jadie Smith, Gavin Smith, Jaycee Roberts, Rilley Kalra, Kaitlyn Shook, Shylynn Shook, and Harper Rita Heeren.

He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Peggy Transou.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday, and the memorial service with military honors at 2 p.m. Saturday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls, with Pastor Dalmus Meeks officiating.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
