Buddyz in McHenry could see a new owner.
Sean Wade, president of Round Lake-based Wade’s Wave Inc., is in the process of buying the downtown casual pizzeria at 1138 N. Green St.
The McHenry City Council approved a transfer of the business’ liquor license at its last meeting, and it allowed Wade to add a catering option, which will allow Buddyz to sell alcohol off-site at places such as community events.
Buddyz opened in 2010 in McHenry and changed hands in 2013.
Although the restaurant will see turnover with Wade’s ownership, he said he intends to keep staff and menu items the same.
“Our plan it to keep the name Buddyz for the business and keep its current employees, recipes and menu items while looking for ways to continually improve,” he said in a note to McHenry Mayor Wayne Jett. “Our goal is to maintain the superior quality of food and service that Buddyz is known for.”
Wade recently owned and managed gourmet popcorn and yogurt stores in Chicago, and he has a background in sales with Gold Medal, which offers concession equipment and supplies.
Wade plans to participate in fundraising efforts, city events, festivals and car shows.
“We are ready to pour our heart and soul into the restaurant and community,” he said.
Wade plans to close on the property Monday.
Jett said he looks forward to seeing what new ownership will bring.
“He has passion; he’s aggressive,” Jett said. “I am excited about what Buddyz can be here in the near future.”
Buddyz offers deep dish, hand-tossed, thin crust and gluten-free pizzas along with gourmet salads, sandwiches and burgers. It also offers a lunch buffet and delivery options.
