Police: Joliet man attacks girlfriend at Bel-Air Motel

Victim declined treatment despite visible injuries, police say

JOLIET – A Joliet man was arrested after he hit his girlfriend multiple times in the face while they were staying at the Bel-Air Motel, police said.

Shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday, Kevin W. Tuntland, 39, of the 300 block of East Washington Street, was taken to the Will County jail and booked into custody on a charge of domestic battery in connection with the alleged attack on his girlfriend.

Tuntland's bond was set at $15,000.

Officers were called to the Bel-Air Motel, 1103 Plainfield Road, after receiving a report of a domestic incident, Joliet Deputy Police Chief Ed Gregory said in an email.

When the officers arrived at the Bel-Air, they met with Tuntland's 26-year-old girlfriend, who alleged he struck her numerous times in the face while they were in a room at the motel, Gregory said.

The girlfriend claimed that Tuntland had been drinking and fled the area before the officers arrived, Gregory said. Even though she reportedly had visible injuries to her face, she refused medical treatment from paramedics who were already on the scene, he said.

At about 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, officers located and arrested Tuntland in the 800 block of Plainfield Road and placed him under arrest.
