The Kendall County Democratic Central Committee held its county convention on April 18, at the Montgomery police station.
The event was presided over by Jerre Henricksen and outgoing Chairman Chuck Sutcliff. In a first for the county, the party elected an all-woman board. Newly elected were Chairman Julie Gondar, Vice Chairman Mary Cresto, Secretary Mary Murray and Treasurer Ilaine Jessup.
“This is a very exciting time for Kendall County,” Gondar said. “With a renewed interest and energy surrounding local government, people are realizing that their voice matters. There are new faces in the group, but we owe a debt of gratitude to the Democratic and Independent membership who have held the fort down for so long.”
Gondar, who had been the president of the Democratic Women of Kendall County, will be replaced in that position by Robyn Vickers, with Rachel Engelhardt stepping into the role of vice president.
Regarding concerns that the DWKC would lose momentum, Gondar said, “Kendall County is lucky to have two very strong groups which allow people to participate at their own comfort level. The new leadership in DWKC will continue to grow and expand the group.”
The Kendall County Democrats meet at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month at the Rush Copley Center in Yorkville.
The Democratic Women of Kendall County meet the first Monday of the month, also at the Rush Copley Center in Yorkville.
