OREGON – Super Dollar Store is going out of business.
After almost two decades in business, the store at 312 W. Washington St. just isn’t generating as many dollars as it used to.
“Sales are down, and we’re pursuing other interests,” owner John Rosauer said. “It’s time to turn the page and move on to another chapter.”
Rosauer and his sister Sherrie, both Oregon natives who now live in Belvidere, own Rosauer Ventures Inc., which at one time included 11 Super Dollar Stores in Illinois and Iowa. One of those stores, in Dixon, closed its doors this month after nearly 20 years downtown.
Store manager Debbie Wigginton, who’s worked at the Oregon store for 12 years, said she wasn’t sure when the store would close.
“It’s going to be several months,” she said. “We’re thinking maybe in the fall.”
She said the store’s three part-timers were told in November the store would be closing.
The building is for sale or lease, and currently all merchandise is 10 percent off.
The Rosauers also closed their stores at North Towne Mall in Rockford and another in Maquoketa, Iowa.
Rosauer said he and his sister are deciding what to do with the remaining stores they own.
