DIXON – An Amboy man is finding out whether the grass is greener on the other side of the business fence. He went from working at a lawnmower shop to owning it.
Richard Harris, 29, bought Sublette Mechanical, 1417 Chicago Ave., from Michael Vaessen of Sublette on March 1. Harris worked for Vaessen for 12 years and helped open Sublette Mechanical
7 years ago.
The business had two locations, the one in Dixon and one in Sublette. Harris bought the Dixon location and Vaessen still owns the Sublette shop at 2025 Sublette Road.
The first order of business for Harris: Come up with a new name, one that wasn’t so mechanical. Enter, Dixon Lawn Mower Repair.
But the name doesn’t say it all. The shop does more than just mend mowers. It sells and fixes power equipment, too – mowers and blowers, trimmers, steam cleaners, power washers, and more.
For the most part, it’s business as usual for Harris, though he has expanded the product line a bit, adding Masport push mowers and Ego battery-powered tools, trimmers, chainsaws and push mowers.
Shop hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, and closed on Sunday. Call 815-288-5223 for more information.
