Complaint: Sex offender exposed himself at Joliet Junction Trail

Joliet man arrested for being at park once before

Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for a Joliet man who allegedly exposed himself in the same park trail he was arrested for being in last year.

John B. Cohoon, 50, of the 1200 block of Schriber Avenue, Joliet, is facing charges of public indecency and being a sexual predator present in a public park, according to an arrest warrant issued April 30.

The warrant alleges Cohoon April 5 was at the 60-acre Joliet Junction Trail when he exposed himself to arouse his own sexual pleasure. Cohoon also is charged with being a child sex offender, who was not allowed at the trail.

On Sept. 29, Cohoon was charged for being a sex predator present at the same trail. The case is scheduled for jury trial on June 27.

Cohoon withdrew a motion to dismiss the 2017 charge against him. Ted Hammel, Cohoon’s attorney, had argued in a court motion that the charge was unconstitutional and a violation of his due process rights.

In 1992, Joliet police arrested Cohoon on a charge of criminal sexual assault. He was sentenced to three years in prison.

In 1998, he was arrested again on charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and failing to report that he changed his address. A Will County sheriff’s deputy had found Cohoon in a car with a 15-year-old boy, who accused Cohoon of molesting him.

Cohoon pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. The charge of failing to report a change of address was dropped. Cohoon has also pleaded guilty to two recent driving under the influence charges.
