20th annual 24-Hour Challenge Run set at Lundahl Middle School in Crystal Lake

Now in its 20th year, Lundahl Middle School’s 24-Hour Challenge Run will kick off at 3 p.m. Thursday.

The all-school relay event will take place over a 24-hour period (until 3 p.m. Friday) on the athletic track behind the school, 560 Nash Road, Crystal Lake.

About 300 students will participate in the annual relay, which consists of co-ed teams made up of sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders who run, eat, sleep and help with the event, spending the entire 24 hours on the infield of the Lundahl track.

New this year is an all-staff team. Students, staff, parents, local businesses and community members set up and supervise the run.

Lundahl physical education teacher Fred Kaiser started the all-school relay in 1998 and has been the event’s organizer since.
