Police: Morris man jailed over Nike sandals theft

A Morris man previously convicted of retail theft and deceptive practice allegedly stole a pair of $35 Nike sandals from Kohl’s, police said.

About 1 p.m. Wednesday, Joliet police responded to Kohl’s, 2510 Route 59, Plainfield, after receiving a report of a man who stole a pair of sandals from the store, Joliet Deputy Police Chief Ed Gregory said.

Police officers interviewed Kohl’s loss prevention officer and next went to the Jewel-Osco grocery store in the same complex, where the suspect, Eric J. Webb, 41, of Morris, had been shopping.

Webb was then detained, Gregory said. Police escorted him to his vehicle in the parking lot, where they allegedly found the stolen pair of Nike sandals. The loss prevention officer positively identified Webb as the person who had reportedly taken the sandals.

Gregory said the loss prevention officer claimed Webb had concealed the sandals in his waistband. The officer watched Webb as he entered his vehicle and then head to Jewel-Osco.

The theft was reportedly captured on surveillance.

On Jan. 19, Webb pleaded guilty to retail theft. He was sentenced to 56 days in jail and given two years probation.

On Aug. 25, 2016, Webb pleaded guilty to deceptive practice. He was given a conditional discharge and ordered to submit to drug testing and treatment. He pleaded guilty to the same charge in 2012.
