DeKALB – To recognize the remodeling work and additional services now available to customers, the DeKalb Walmart, 2300 Sycamore Road, held a grand reopening event Friday morning.
Personnel coordinator Cari Weishaar said one of the new services being offered is an online grocery pickup, through which customers can order items online and pick them up without leaving their car. The service is offered 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week.
"We hope this will make it a little more convenient for our customers," Weishaar said.
The DeKalb Walmart is one of five locations in the state that will offer this online service, which is also available through a mobile app, and one of 16 stores that is undergoing remodeling this year. Additional services include more self check-out lanes on both sides of the store.
In April, Wal-Mart announced it expects to spend an estimated $56 million in Illinois over the next year through the remodeling of 16 stores and the rollout of the new online and in-store innovations.
DeKalb Mayor Jerry Smith was in attendance to present a certificate of appreciation to store manager Sarah Wells.
"The revitalization of this DeKalb store is but a microcosm of what Wal-Mart is doing in 15 other Illinois stores," Smith said. "On behalf of the citizens of DeKalb, and may I say on behalf of the thousands of folks who visit our city from Sycamore, Genoa and other towns around DeKalb County, thank you for helping to make shopping a more pleasant experience for all of us."
