KC Nursing hosts Honor Society induction

The Kishwaukee College Nursing Program held an induction ceremony for the Alpha Delta Nu Nursing Honor Society on May 16.

Thirteen second-year nursing students were inducted as new members of ADN. Patricia Mitchell and June Callahan are the faculty advisers to the Kishwaukee College chapter.

ADN is the official honor society of the National Organization for Associate Degree Nursing. Kishwaukee College is home to one of the 85 chapters nationwide.

To be eligible for admission to ADN, nursing students must have completed two semesters of nursing program coursework with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, have a minimum 87 percent average in all nursing courses and complete a leadership project.

The spring 2018 induction class’ leadership project was to increase awareness of nursing as a career through local outreach activities to area high schools.

The induction ceremony included welcome remarks by Kelly Soost, coordinator of nursing/instructor, and induction ceremony by Cynthia Prendergast, health careers retention specialist/adjunct instructor. Representing the new inductees were student speakers Soscha Lucero and ADN Vice President Heather Penniman.

The inductees received their ADN pins from each other to signify their interconnectedness as they complete their educational journey as nursing students.

Chapter adviser Pat Mitchell bestowed each with an honor cord.

The 13 nursing students inducted are Rachel Aldridge, Rochelle; Marc Brown, Rockford; Kayla Butz, Genoa; Kendra Chaplin, Sycamore; Gabriela Diaz Morales, DeKalb; Myrna Guerrero, Sycamore; Soscha Lucero, DeKalb; Heather Penniman, DeKalb; Brittany Remington, DeKalb; Courtney Stockl, DeKalb; Emma Stone, Sycamore; Felisha Toran, Mount Morris; and Xingtian Wu, DeKalb.
