Glen Ellyn man charged with posting threatening messages against Glenbard West

GLEN ELLYN – A Glen Ellyn man has been charged with posting threatening messages directed at Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn.

Timothy O'Dea, 20, of the 800 block of Glen Oak Avenue, has been charged with felony disorderly conduct after being taken into custody June 7 at the Glen Ellyn Police Department, according to a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office. He was released a short time later after posting the necessary 10 percent of his $30,000 bond, or $3,000.

On March 19, employees at Glenbard West located several threatening messages placed throughout the school campus, according to the release.

At about 9 p.m. March 18, it is alleged O’Dea “knowingly transmitted a threat of violence, death or bodily harm at Glenbard West High School … directed at persons at a school, school function, or school event, whether or not school is in session," the release stated.

Authorities at the school contacted the Glen Ellyn Police Department, which conducted an investigation into the alleged threat, according to the release. Notes also were reportedly left at St. Petronille School in Glen Ellyn at the same time.

Police continue to investigate the matter, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Glen Ellyn Police Department at 630-469-1187.

“My office takes any threat made against a school extremely seriously and anyone found guilty of making any threat directed at a school will be held accountable,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in the release. “I would like to thank the authorities at Glenbard West High School for bringing this matter to the attention of law enforcement."

O’Dea’s next court appearance is set for July 5 in front of DuPage County Judge John Kinsella.
