Judge Carlson carjacked in Greektown

Will County Judge David Carlson was carjacked Friday morning in Greektown.

Carlson had attended a Hellenic Bar Association Event on Thursday night and remained in Chicago after, Will County Chief Judge Richard Schoenstedt said. Schoenstedt also attended the event.

“He drove me up. We went together,” Schoenstedt said. “I left and walked to the train station. I was in bed by 10 o’clock.”

Carlson went to a restaurant and stopped at a Walgreens for a bottle of water to drink during the drive home, Schoenstedt said. He was attacked after he got into his black Chevrolet Suburban.

“Three young men opened the car door. I was told one of them had a gun,” said Schoenstedt, who spoke to Carlson on Friday morning and said he believes his fellow judge emerged from the ordeal without serious injury.

Chicago Police Officer Michael Carroll said one of the suspects placed a hard object into Carlson’s back and said “give me the keys or I’ll shoot you.”

“I’m hearing here and there there was a bit of a physical thing, where they messed with him when they pulled him out of the car,” he said.

Carlson’s car was equipped with a tracking device.

The vehicle was undamaged and nothing was stolen but Carlson’s keys, he said.

Carlson was not at the courthouse Friday morning, but Schoenstedt said he had scheduled the day off ahead of time.

“I think he planned on doing a bit of socializing because he already took the day off today,” he said.
