Huntley animal shelter seeks donations to fix broken air conditioning

Existing system is broken; temps reach 90-plus degrees

As temperatures climb, Animal House Shelter has found itself without a way to cool its animals.

The existing air conditioning system at the Huntley-based shelter is old, failing and cannot be fixed. The cost to replace the system and restore air conditioning is expected to be between $15,000 and $20,000, business manager Alexis Williams said.

“It is brutal in here,” Williams said. "It is 90-plus degrees in the back, where our dogs and staff are.”

The shelter is at maximum capacity with 200 dogs and 50 cats in the building, which adds to the heat, Williams said.

The system has undergone repairs before, but that isn’t a possibility this time, she said.

“We talked to the people who have helped with the air before, and they said we can’t do much but replace it,” Williams said.

The shelter has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for a replacement system. Donate through the shelter’s website, www.animalhouseshelter.com, and in person at 13005 Ernesti Road, Huntley.
