Downers Grove man sentenced to 8 years for sexual assault of student

DOWNERS GROVE – A former teacher and coach at Lake Park High School in Roselle was sentenced June 20 to eight years in prison for having inappropriate sexual contact with a minor female student, according to a DuPage County State's Attorney's Office news release.

Jared Wissmiller, 28, of Downers Grove entered an agreed plea of guilty to one count of criminal sexual assault, the release stated. Wissmiller has been held at the DuPage County Jail since turning himself in May 31, 2017.

An investigation led by the DuPage County Children’s Center revealed Wissmiller engaged in inappropriate sexual behavior with the student from June 1, 2016, through September 2016, according to the release.

“This morning, Jared Wissmiller admitted that he used his position as a teacher to take advantage of a young girl solely to satisfy his sick sexual desires,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in the release. “Today’s sentence of eight years behind bars and a lifetime registration as a sex offender will ensure that Mr. Wissmiller will be unable to prey upon unsuspecting, innocent students for the rest of his life.”

Wissmiller will be required to serve 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole. He also will be required to register as a sex offender for life, the release stated.
