‘Squad Car Night’ to honor late Bolingbrook police officer

Local police departments to showcase vehicles at event

Local police departments and emergency management agencies will honor the memory of late Bolingbrook police officer Stephen Alexander with a Squad Car Night.

The event will take place from 5 to
8 p.m. July 13 at the Promenade Bolingbrook.

Attendees will be able to tour vehicles, ask questions and interact with officers. Event organizers will release information on which specific local police departments will be participating in the event at a later date.

Alexander was killed in a car crash Dec. 3, 2017, in New Ross/Wexford in Ireland. He and his family were abroad for a relative's funeral.

The 17-year Bolingbrook Police Department veteran left behind two daughters, ages 10 and 11. He served as a park patrol officer with the department, as well as an assistant team leader for the Raid Entry and Containment Team, lead department instructor in defensive tactics and use of force and an instructor for firearms, rapid deployment and breaching.

He also was a highly decorated officer graduating first in his class at the Cook County Police Academy in 2001. He won the Life Saving Award in 2013 and was nominated as Police Officer of the Year.

Alexander was 49.
