Buona Beef headed to Glen Ellyn

Former Enterprise Rent-A-Car building to be razed for restaurant

GLEN ELLYN – A building at 395 Roosevelt Road in Glen Ellyn that formerly housed Enterprise Rent-A-Car will be demolished to make way for a Buona Beef restaurant.

At their June 25 meeting, Glen Ellyn village trustees approved plans for the restaurant, along with a special use permit that will allow the restaurant to have a drive-thru. Keystone Ventures LLC, developer for Buona Beef, had requested approval of the plans.

Trustees also approved sign code variations for the restaurant, along with the building's exterior appearance. The majority of the site previously was used for Enterprise Rent-A-Car, which recently relocated across the street to 404 Roosevelt Road.

An Andy's Frozen Custard restaurant also will be built on the site, and Leslie Car Wash will remain at the location.

"Buona Beef is a family-owned business," Tim Hague of Keystone Ventures told trustees. "They've grown from their roots in Berwyn. They are very excited to be part of Glen Ellyn, and they are a very good business partner to the community. There's a lot of outreach. They are anxious to be part of the community."

Buona Beef plans to open by the end of the year or early next year, Hague said. The first Buona Beef restaurant opened in 1981 in Berwyn, and the independent restaurant chain now has restaurants throughout the Chicago area.

Along with Italian beef sandwiches, Buona Beef's menu also includes burgers, hot dogs, hand-rolled pizza, soups and salads.

In other restaurant-related news, trustees also approved outdoor seating for The JOY Bar, which recently opened at 548 Crescent Blvd. in Glen Ellyn in the space that previously housed Euro Crepes. The JOY Bar sells organic juices, along with smoothies, toast, salads, coffee and tea.
