DIXON – Ronald Lee Hicks, 64, of Dixon, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2018, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, surrounded by his family.
Ron had many occupations over the years. He served in the Air Force straight out of high school during the Vietnam War. Ron was a farmer for many years after returning home from the military; then owned and operated Hicks Photography, retiring in 2005. His last endeavor was working for KBR Inc. as a civilian truck driver in Iraq before his retirement.
Ronald was born Sept. 10, 1953, in Dixon, the son of Roy and Mary (Dimmig) Hicks. He married Theresa Burke on June 23, 1990, in Dixon, and celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary before his passing. Ron was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa; his children, Renelle Leigh Hicks of Walnut, Ryan Lee Hicks of Peoria, Rachelle (Robyn) Miller-Hicks of Bethalto, and Marylu Katherine Hicks of Dixon; two stepchildren, Lisa (Dan) Cullen of Dixon and Todd Knebel of Ina; two sisters, Kathy Worton of Dixon and Carol (Greg) Ives of Rockford; one brother, Allen (Christa) Hicks of Harmon; seven grandchildren, Jacob VanWassenhove, Isaac Hicks, Caleb Lair, Benjamin Lair, Jarik Hicks, Alana Lorenzen and Dylan Hicks; one stepgranddaughter, Ally Cullen; and a large extended family including brothers- and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Karla Carrington and Ann Hicks; and two stepgranddaughters, Emily Cullen and Abigail Cullen.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. with a scripture service at 7 p.m. Friday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon, with the Rev. Keith Romke officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Make a Wish Foundation.
