STERLING – Mrs. Alice D. Curry, 91, of Sterling, passed away Monday, June 25, 2018, at Regency Care of Sterling, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Curry was born April 25, 1927, in Lincoln, the daughter of A. Wayne and Wilma (Snyder) Dickey. She graduated in 1945 from Clinton High School in Clinton, Illinois. She attended Illinois Wesleyan University and Illinois State University in Normal, majoring in music.
She married E. Verne Curry on Feb. 15, 1948, at the home of her parents in Clinton, Illinois. She taught grade school at the former Emerson Grade School and the former Central School in Sterling.
A talented pianist and organist, Mrs. Curry was a private piano and organ teacher for more than 50 years. She was a member and organist of the former Community Church of Christ in Rock Falls from 1978 until the church closed in October 2010. She also had a motor route for 37 years for the Rockford Register Star.
She is survived by one son, Warren Wayne Curry of Garland, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. Kathryn A. (Jack) Kime of Maryville and Alice C. Curry of Sterling; four grandchildren, Orv Evan Curry of Fort Myers, Florida, Val Curry of Garland, Texas, Michael Kime of Maryville, and Christina Kime of Dahlonega, Georgia; and two great-grandchildren, Evan Garrett Curry and Stella K. Curry of Fort Myers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Robert Wayne Dickey; and one son, Allan Verne Curry.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be at a later date. Burial of cremains will be at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery in Clinton, Illinois. McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls is handling arrangements.
A memorial has been established.
