Will County coroner IDs second victim in suspicious death case

Detectives believe vehicle was intentionally set on fire

The Will County Coroner’s Office has identified the second man who was found shot and burning inside a car engulfed in flames Tuesday in Joliet Township.

Don Tae Ray Morgan, 21, of Joliet, was identified using dental records, according to a news release from the office Thursday night.

The office previously identified 19-year-old Joliet resident Xavier C.E. Sallie.

About 10 p.m. Tuesday, deputies were dispatched after receiving a report of a car on fire, according to a news release. East Joliet firefighters were on the scene extinguishing the fire. When they finished, deputies discovered Sallie and Morgan, both deceased, inside the vehicle.

The bodies were severely burned and unrecognizable, according to the Will County Sheriff’s Office. Each man suffered a single gunshot wound.

Detectives believe the vehicle was intentionally set on fire in order to conceal the murders. Sallie owned the vehicle, a 2004 Mercedes, the sheriff’s office said.

The office is asking anyone who might have been with the victims recently to call 815-727-8574, ext. 4950. The number will connect to a detective who will be available over the weekend and the remainder of this investigation.
