Richmond-Burton District 157 to pay Patrick Elder $90,092 in role as dean

Richmond-Burton School District 157 will pay Patrick Elder $90,092 for his new role as dean of students.

Elder, the district's former athletic director and football coach, is facing a felony charge stemming from a 2017 incident where he allegedly drove under the influence.

Elder had been the AD and football coach since the 2006-07 school year. In 2012, Elder made $79,350, and in 2017, his base salary was $99,578, according to district documents.

Elder was replaced as coach in 2017. Assistant coaches Tad DePorter and Brett Zick acted as co-head coaches for the 2017 season.

In a February board meeting, more than 50 people spoke on Elder's behalf asking that he be brought back as football coach. The board voted, 4-3, not to have Elder return.

Under Elder's new contract, he is eligible for benefits such as vacation, sick time and health insurance. The district will pay business expenses, tuition reimbursement and $50 a month for a cellphone, according to his contract, which was approved June 20.

Kristi Martin, who worked as dean for the 2017-18 school year, will take over as athletic director. Elder resumed responsibilities as dean July 1.

The district paid Martin $73,000 during the 2017-18 school year, and she will make $88,500 in the 2018-19 school year as the new AD, documents show.

Martin also is eligible for benefits such as sick and vacation time and health insurance.
