The SD308 Board of Education approved the appointments of three assistant principals during its meeting July 16.
Courtney L. DiFiore was chosen to fill the role of assistant principal of Plank Junior High School in Oswego for the 2018-19 school year.
DiFiore started her teaching experience in 2009 as a sixth-grade language arts, strategic language arts, strategic writing, and reading dynamics teacher. In 2013, DiFiore completed an administrative internship at Bednarcik Junior High School in Aurora, where she assisted on a variety of tasks in the day-to-day operation of the building.
This past school year, DiFiore was a second-grade classroom teacher at Lakewood Creek Elementary School.
Director of Junior High Education Shannon Lueders said, “Ms. DiFiore is an excellent communicator, and will work collaboratively with students, staff and parents to make the best decisions for the Plank community.”
In her role as assistant principal, DiFiore will earn a base salary of $63,860 for the 2018-19 school year.
DiFiore has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Illinois State University and a master’s degree in leadership and administration from North Central College.
Brian M. Tworek was appointed to the position of assistant principal at Old Post Elementary School in Oswego for the 2018-19 school year. Tworek is replacing Samantha Sinovich, who accepted the role of principal at Southbury Elementary School, also in Oswego.
Tworek started teaching in 2004 as a fifth-grade teacher at Krug Elementary School in Aurora. Since 2007, he has been a fourth-grade teacher at Grande Reserve Elementary School in Yorkville. Tworek looks to employ his leadership skills and qualities to support both the principal and district’s vision, and ensure a successful learning experience for all students.
Director of Elementary Education Dr. Lindsay Allen said, “Brian is a multi-faceted teacher and educator who utilizes best practices in leading. He is a strong communicator who works collaboratively with students, staff, and parents.”
As assistant principal, Tworek will earn a base salary of $61,800 for the 2018-19 school year.
Tworek has an associate degree from the College of Lake County; a bachelor’s degree in education, social science/language arts endorsement from Western Illinois University; and a master’s degree in education, educational leadership, from the University of St. Francis.
The board also approved the appointment of Adam M. Lewickas to the position of assistant principal of Lakewood Creek Elementary School in Montgomery for the 2018-19 school year. Lewickas is replacing Barb Garrison, who accepted the role of principal at Brokaw Early Learning Center in Oswego. For the past four years, Lewickas served as the assistant principal at Cathedral of Saint Raymond School (pre-K through eighth grade) in Joliet.
“Mr. Lewickas brings a wealth of experience to the Lakewood Creek community, both as a teacher and as an administrator. We look forward to him working together with the Lakewood Creek students, staff, and parents to make the best decisions for the school community,” Allen said.
As assistant principal, Lewickas will earn a base salary of $63,345 for the 2018-19 school year.
Lewickas has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Northern Illinois University and a master’s degree in school leadership, school leaders from Concordia University Chicago.
Also during the July 16 meeting, the board approved the recall of seven teachers who had been “honorably dismissed,” and rehiring three part-time faculty members, who had been released in March of this year as part of the district’s ongoing budgetary changes.
