ORLANDO, Fla. – George J. Danek, 73, of Orlando, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017.
He was born April 21, 1944, in Queens, New York, the son of Stanley A. and Mary Ann (Griffin) Danek. They moved to Dixon in 1947. Mr. Danek attended Dixon High School and Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, where he met his future wife, Joyce Pardon. They married Sept. 4, 1965.
An Army veteran, he served in Vietnam. After his military service, he was employed as a systems analyst for Chicago Bell Telephone Company in downtown Chicago for 13 years. He transferred to AT&T, Orlando, where he worked from 1982 until retiring in 1998.
Mr. Danek is survived by his wife of 52 years; two sons, Dave G. Danek and Geoff G. Danek, both of Orlando; daughter, Amanda (Drew) Danek Dawson and grandson, Zachary C. Shreffler of St. Cloud, Florida; three brothers, John (Carol) Danek of Rock Island, and Charles Danek and Thomas Danek, both of Dixon; sister, Bette (Robert) Danek Hertz of Boulder, Colorado; sister-in-law, Carmela Danek of Orlando; brother-in-law, Robert (Sandi) Pardon of West Chicago; and several nieces and nephews and cousins and friends.
Mr. Danek was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Daniel in May 1976, Jake in January 2017; brother-in-law, Larry Pardon in July 2006; and brother, Stanley in November 2016.
A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, with military honors by the Dixon Combined Veterans Group at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon. In case of rain, the funeral will be at Jones Funeral Home in Dixon.
