Bette C. "Char" Renner

WALNUT – Bette Charlene "Char" Renner, 87, of Walnut, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2018, at Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling.

Char was born June 19, 1931, in Walnut, the daughter of Clifford and Jennie (Larkin) Hill. She married Leslie Renner on Dec. 21, 1952, in Walnut. Char was a schoolteacher and homemaker, raising five children. She was an active member of Walnut United Methodist Church and was a talented pianist. She loved her family, faith, and to travel.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy (Bruce) Clear of Indianapolis; four sons, Gregg (Pam) Renner of St. Louis, Brad (Lisa) Renner of Germantown, New York, Russell (Diane) Renner of Morrison, and Rod (Deron Boyles) Renner of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and two brothers, Charles Hill and Lawrence Hill.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. A gathering of family and friends also will be from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. and the memorial service at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at Walnut United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Poust officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Cemetery.
