Robert Simpkins

STERLING – Robert Simpkins, 93, of Sterling, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018, in Davenport, Iowa.

Robert “Bob” was born April 30, 1925, in McGee, Arkansas, the son of Virginia (Clark) and Robert Simpkins Sr. He worked at Northwestern Steel & Wire Co. for 33 years. He was a longstanding member of Macedonia Baptist Church, and was ordained as a deacon in February 1973. He also served as superintendent of Sunday school. He married Phyllis Smith of Sterling.

Survivors include three sons, Robert "Bobby" (Wandolyn) Simpkins of Texarkana, Texas, Richard Simpkins of Fremont, California, and Richard Jessie; five daughters, Laura "Elaine" Hunter
of Mount Kisco, New York, Elizabeth "Liz" Gulley-Criss of Roselle, Terri Simpkins of Decatur, Felicia Gulley of Sacramento, California, and Cynthia (Mark) Mueller of Davenport, Iowa; 37 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Patricia Gulley and Ann Reed; parents; three brothers, Fred Simpkins, Lewie Alexander and Larry Clark Simpkins; and one sister, Hattie Pearson.

Visitation will be from 10 to noon Saturday, with the funeral at noon Saturday at Macedonia Baptist Church, 1313 Woodburn Ave., Sterling, with John Cooper, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.
