STERLING – Patricia Elizabeth Flynn, 90, of Sterling, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018, at her home.
Patricia was born Jan. 16, 1928, in Chicago, the daughter of John D. and Mary (Foley) McCarthy. She graduated in 1948 from St. Anthony School of Nursing in Rockford. She married Thomas E. Flynn, M.D. in 1952, and they moved to Sterling in 1956.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary. She served on the parish council and taught religious education programs. She was a Girl Scout leader and volunteered in the Red Cross Bloodmobile and Hospice.
Patricia enjoyed her children, grandchildren and family, quilting and traveling.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas E. Flynn, M.D. of Sterling; children, Thomas (Suzanne) of Lubbock, Texas, Dennis (Rita) of Elgin, James (Sheryl) of Austin Texas, Eileen (Scott) Wolber of Sterling and Mary Catherine (Ron) Curtis of Shorewood, Wisconsin; one sister, JoAnne Lindsey; and 14 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Margaret; brother, Michael McCarthy; and sister, Mary McCarthy.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Schilling Funeral Home & Cremation in Sterling. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Church in Sterling. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to St. Mary School and CGH Medical Center Foundation, both in Sterling.
