AMBOY – Carol C. Machen, 75, of Amboy, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, at Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon.
She was born June 4, 1943, in Amboy, the daughter of Glenn and Marie (Riley) Zentz. She was a member of the Class of 1961 from Amboy High School. Carol had been a janitor and worked in the kitchens for the Amboy School District, and had worked in the maintenance department at Sauk Valley Community College. She also worked in the kitchen at Walton Tap. She was a member of and taught Sunday school at United First Church in Amboy. She also was a member of Amboy Fire Department Flamettes, and enjoyed being in the firemen’s plays. She had been a 4-H and Cub Scout leader, and was a member of Amboy Women’s Club, Amboy ESDA and the Rebekahs. She also volunteered at Leydig Center in Dixon.
She married Robert E. Machen on June 11, 1961, in Harmon. He preceded her in death on July 22, 1992.
Carol is survived by her children, Lyle (Lorrie) Machen of Sterling, Mark (Teresa) Machen and Roberta “Robbi” Cardot, both of Amboy; 12 grandchildren, Laura Dunlap, Cassie Streur, Renee Nunez, Cody Machen, Shanna Withrow, Stephanie Schaefer, Donna Machen, Jaimi Machen, Addison Machen, Tiffany Machen, Kayla Schaefer and Billie Doering; 14 1/2 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She also is survived by one brother, Jack (Joanne) Zentz of Fort Meyers, Florida, and one brother-in-law, Jim (Sharon) Machen of Clinton, Iowa.
She also was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at United First Church in Amboy, with the Rev. Mark Glenn officiating. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Amboy.
A memorial has been established to the Amboy Fire Department.
