DOWNERS GROVE – A Downers Grove resident accused of shooting a man in December 2015 at Walmart was sentenced Oct. 4 to 12 years in prison, according to a DuPage County State's Attorney's Office news release.

Bradley Morris, 22, of the 1000 block of Palmer Street, pleaded guilty to aggravated battery – discharge of a firearm in front of Judge Liam Brennan, who handed down the sentence, the release stated.

At about 5:40 p.m. Dec. 3, 2015, Darien police officers responded to a call of shots fired in the Walmart at 2189 75th St. in Darien, according to the release.

The officers learned there was a verbal altercation in the store between Morris and the victim. The altercation turned physical in the store's vestibule, at which time Morris pulled a gun and shot four times at the victim, striking him once in the back of his right shoulder, the release stated.

Morris fled, but he was arrested Dec. 5, 2015, in Chicago as he attempted to board a bus bound for Florida, according to the release.

Morris appeared in bond court Dec. 7, 2015, where bond was set at $3 million. He has remained in custody since that time.

The victim has since recovered from his injuries, the release stated.

Morris will be required to serve 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole. He will receive credit for time already served in custody.
