As Halloween approaches, communities and organizations are hosting a variety of events to celebrate the spookiest of seasons. To help families plan their activities, we’ve compiled a list of upcoming activities in the area.
YORKVILLE
Oct. 20: Biz Boo!
On Saturday, Oct. 20, families and trick-or-treaters can visit Yorkville businesses that have a “Trick-or-Treat HERE” poster, to receive candy, and to take part in fun activities like pumpkin carving, costume contests, face painting, magicians, bounce houses, games, and more. A “Touch-a-Truck” will be hosted at Old Second Bank on Countryside Parkway, featuring a school bus, emergency vehicles, and community first-responders. More information about Biz Boo!, including a list of participating businesses can be found on the Yorkville Chamber of Commerce’s website, yorkvillechamber.org.
Oct. 21, Oct. 28: Halloween
on the Farm
On Sunday, Oct. 21 and Sunday, Oct. 28, The Lyon Farm, home to the Kendall County Historical Society, will host its annual Halloween on the Farm event, with hayrides through the haunted barn. Children can also trick-or-treat, play old-fashioned games, and participate in a costume parade with prizes. Halloween on the Farm will run from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. both days. Admission is $4 per person, and children under 2 are free. Credit and debit cards are not accepted.
OSWEGO
Oct. 20: Park After Dark
The Oswegoland Park District is looking for volunteers to stop the zombie apocalypse, during the annual Park After Dark event on Saturday, Oct. 20. Participants will meet at the Civic Center (5 Ashlawn Ave., Montgomery) for evacuation orders, and will be transported out of town through the remote “hot zone.” To survive, players (individuals or teams) must make it through the infested area’s rough and uneven terrain without becoming infected by the armies of the undead, while also acquiring essential survival tools. Participants are advised to bring a flashlight with them. Due to the mature content, Park After Dark is recommended for participants age 14 and up, but 12-year-olds will be allowed to participate in the 5:30 p.m. session.
Oct. 27: Monster Mash Bash
Children are encouraged to dress in Halloween costumes for the Oswegoland Park District’s annual Monster Mash Bash at Oswego High School, from 2 to 4 p.m on Saturday, Oct. 27. Guests can participate in games, win prizes, enjoy bounce houses, get their faces painted, and other activities. Admission is $5 at the door, and adults are free.
SANDWICH
Oct. 27: Halloween Walk
The Sandwich Chamber of Commerce’s fourth annual Halloween Walk will take place in downtown Sandwich on Saturday, Oct. 27, from noon to 2 p.m. Starting at the Veterans Park Gazebo, trick-or-treaters can make their way to the businesses of downtown Sandwich, to collect candy in treat bags provided by the Chamber. Participating businesses will have an orange sign on their door. The Halloween Walk is free to attend, and open to the public.
Oct. 28: Trick or Trunk
Trick-or-treaters are encouraged to come to the West Branch of the Fox Valley Family YMCA on Sunday, Oct. 28, to participate in a trunk or treat event. From 1 to 2 p.m., employees and members of the Sandwich YMCA will decorate their vehicles and trunks, and will be ready to pass out candy in the YMCA parking lot.

Oct. 25: Treats on the Streets
Plano businesses will be taking part in the Chamber of Commerce’s third annual Treats on the Streets, on Thursday, Oct. 25.
