McHenry butcher shop, deli aims to open by November

Downtown McHenry soon will be home to a new butcher shop, delicatessen and wine store.

The McHenry City Council approved a liquor license this week for Hub Market, an LLC with 11 owners, including Mayor Wayne Jett’s wife, Amber Jett, and Mandy Polerecky, who is married to the city’s community development director, Ross Polerecky, according to city documents.

The market will be at 1210 N. Green St., next to the McHenry Downtown Theater.

The new business has been in the works since the mayor put out a social media call for development ideas and investors to fill the vacant property.

The shop’s other nine investors are Woodstock City Council member and D.C. Cobb’s owner Dan Hart; McHenry D.C. Cobb’s operator Josh Carstens; Planning and Zoning Commission member Art Gurda; McHenry High School District 156 Board President Gary Kinshofer; John Cummings; Suchit Shah; Mike Sullivan; Glen O’Halleran; and Jon Domanico, who will run the market, according to city documents.

The Domanico family owns and operates Orchard Prime Meats and Wine Shoppe and Tapas Calpe in Cary and said the Hub Market concept is similar.

“It has been a successful thing to us [in Cary]” Nick Domanico said, “and the concept I have there, my son will do in McHenry. ... It will be a good benefit to the city. A lot of what we do is not done here, and we are fixing the building up.”

The Domanicos plan to offer wine tastings and classes at the McHenry location, and the liquor license will allow them to complement the main focus of the business, which is the food. They said they don’t plan to offer video gambling at the store.

Jett said he is looking forward to the market opening and supports the business’ effort.

“I am excited to bring [Hub Market] in and bring new opportunities to McHenry,” he said. “The facility is going to look amazing.”

Nov. 20, according to city documents.
