Gurnee Park District board members honored for service

WHEELING – Members of Gurnee Park District’s Park Board were recognized for their years of dedication and service by the Illinois Association of Park Districts.

With an average of 16 years of board experience, President Jim Goshorn, Vice President Libby Baker and Commissioner Vicki Paddock are deserving of their Board Member Service Anniversary Awards.

• Honored for 10 years – Goshorn: “As a father, I felt it was very important to be involved in the community, especially when there are opportunities for citizens,” Goshorn said.

FitNation, Hunt Club Park and the many bike trails are not only some of Goshorn’s hobbies, but also favorite projects during his time in office.

“The FitNation acquisition not only placed emphasis on health and wellness, but increased employment and recreational opportunities,” Goshorn said.

He continues to share his passion and serve his community based on the Gurnee Park District’s mission to do so in a fiscally responsible manner.

• Honored for 15 years – Libby Baker: After taking time off work in the Park District field to focus on being a mom, running for Park Board was a great way to stay connected and involved.

“Gurnee Park District is truly an industry leader. I am proud to be part of a great team,” Baker said.

From learning pickleball to enjoying Betty Russell Park with her family, she is passionate about parks and recreation.

• Honored for 25 years – Vicki Paddock: Pennies for Pembrook recruited Vicki Paddock to help raise funds and build Pembrook Park. Now affectionately referred to as Betty Russell Park, Paddock continues to do more 25 years later.

“From recreation to Park District staff, the board and entire GPD team have respect for one another,” Paddock said. “We’re fortunate to have such positive input from all levels of Gurnee Park District.”

To Paddock, the past 25 years have gone fast. Seeing growth from first moving here continues to surprise Paddock and inspire her efforts when serving the community.
