Athlete of the Week: Emily Holbrook

Why Holbrook was selected:

The Angels senior outside hitter had a big week to help her team capture three wins which assured them of a trip to the Class 3A finals. She had 18 kills in a sectional semifinal win over Champaign Central and 16 kills in a sectional final victory over Normal U-High.

Herald-News sports writer Curt Herron talked with Holbrook.

Herron: What do you like the most about volleyball?

Holbrook: It's a team sport, the excitement after every point and how it motivates you to work your hardest in order to get better.

Herron: What do you like most about competing for your team?

Holbrook: I like our team's chemistry and how we're going to the state finals and everyone is doing their part.

Herron: What do you like best about playing for JCA?

Holbrook: I like the program and all of the traditions the coaches have bestowed upon us.

Herron: What's your favorite food and restaurant?

Holbrook: McDonald's since I go there after games.

Herron: Who's your favorite sports team?

Holbrook: The White Sox.

Herron: Who's your favorite athlete?

Holbrook: Kelly Murphy.

Herron: What's your favorite class in school?

Holbrook: I like English.

Herron: Do you know what you'd like to do in the future?

Holbrook: I'm going to go to Arizona State and then I want to go into elementary education.

Herron: Do you have any pets?

Holbrook: I have a dog named Charley, who's a Cockapoo.

Herron: What do you like to do in your free time?

Holbrook: Go to movies and play volleyball.

Herron: What's your favorite TV show and movies?

Holbrook: The Voice. And 'The Notebook' or "Dirty Dancing.'

Herron: What's your favorite music and your favorite artist?

Holbrook: Country. Brett Eldredge.

Herron: Where's the best place that you've been and where would you like to visit?

Holbrook: The Bahamas and Hawaii. Greece.
