Lloyd Dettman

STERLING – Lloyd Dettman of Sterling passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana, Kentucky, where he resided with his son and daughter-in-law.

Lloyd was born June 17, 1927, the son of Rudolph and Gladys (Emmitt) Dettman. He had one brother, Ron, and two sisters, Joyce and Lyla Mae. On Sept. 3, 1948, he married Irene Babel. The couple were married 67 years and had five children and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as cared for foster children. Lloyd served with the Navy Seabees in the South Pacific, after which he was employed at Illinois Bell Telephone Co. and AT&T for 34 years before retiring in 1985. He was an avid sports fan, especially enjoying the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs, even attending a Cubs game for his 90th and 91st birthdays.

Survivors include his sons, David of Freeport and Dana and Dann (Karen), both of Cynthiana, Kentucky; sisters, Joyce Book and Lyla Mae Pope, both of Sterling; and his several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brother-in-law, Harley (Mildred) Babel; one son, Dennis Dettman; one daughter, Dennice Dettman Rohrbaugh; and two grandsons.

There will be no public visitation or services. His children will make arrangements to have his cremains laid to rest with his wife and daughter at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.
