Most Valuable Athlete: Tyler Nubin

The North Stars WR/DB had two touchdowns in St. Charles North's 21-10 7A quarterfinals win over Wheaton Warrenville South last week

Name: Tyler Nubin

School: St. Charles North, senior

Sport: Football

Why he was selected: Nubin, a Minnesota commit, continued his hot playoff performance. Last week against Wheaton Warrenville South in the Class 7A quarterfinals, Nubin ran for 85 yards and had 94 receiving yards with two touchdowns to send the North Stars to a program-first state semifinals appearance, where they will play Mount Carmel.

Bartelson caught up with the star wideout to discuss his performance and what lies ahead. Below is an edited transcript.

Bartelson: How does it feel to do what no team in St Charles has ever done?

Nubin: To be a part of a team like this is something really special. We had the goal to be in that elite category in the state by the end of the year, and we are there. Now, all we have to do is finish the job. We aren't satisfied with just being here.

Bartelson: That second touchdown throw from Kyler Brown, he placed that ball perfectly. Was it what you expected it to be?

Nubin: All the receivers have been really clicking with Kyler lately. He put that ball in a great spot and all I had to do was go get it. I knew my route could be open on that play because of the coverage they were running so I just ran under it and went and got it.

Bartelson: Alec Kritta has been great opposite of you. What makes him so dangerous?

Nubin: What makes him dangerous is his pure speed and his route running. He is really good at getting a defender's shoulders turned, and [he] has really good separation out of his breaks.

Bartelson: What are you most concerned with so far in prep for Mount Carmel?

Nubin: We know they are a really talented football team, and they are really physical so we will be ready for a four-quarter fight.
