New management coming to That Place on Palmyra

DIXON – That Place on Palmyra will be under new management next year.

Matt Prescott, owner of the Candlelight Inn restaurants, is leasing the business at 628 Palmyra Road from owners Robin and Tom Canode, and the switchover is planned for the start of the new year.

He said the Canodes are looking to retire and approached him about taking over the business.

“It’s a gorgeous facility with a good product and that’s a testament to the work that Tom and Robin have done,” he said Wednesday.

He also said many of the workers have been there around 3 years, which is high for the business and also speaks to the Canodes’ good treatment of employees.

No big changes are planned for the restaurant. The name, decor and most of the menu will stay the same, but they will be taking off some of the less popular dishes and doing some tweaking so that the offerings will fit better with the size of the kitchen and customers won’t have to wait too long for food, he said.

The restaurant opened in 2013 as BombDigity Bar and Grill and then changed its name to That Place on Palmyra 2 years later after renovations.

Earlier this year, Prescott and business partner Tim Kendrick bought and remodeled the Brandywine Banquet and Event Center at 441 state Route 2, and they also own Long Shot Sports Bar and Grill in Rock Falls, the Corner Tap in Rock Falls, all three Candlelight Inn restaurants in Sterling, Rock Falls, and Clinton, Iowa, and Sauk Valley Plumbing.
