A McHenry woman was sentenced to six years in prison Monday for delivering heroin to a man who later died of an overdose.
Elizabeth A. Long, 24, accepted an offer from the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office and pleaded guilty to delivery of a controlled substance.
The charge stemmed from claims that Long delivered between 1 and
15 grams of heroin to 23-year-old Scott Koivisto of McHenry on Sept. 21, 2017.
McHenry County Judge Sharon Prather sentenced Long to six years in prison followed by two years of parole. Long, of the 700 block of Colony Trail, will receive credit for the year she has spent in the McHenry County Jail.
Koivisto was found dead Sept. 22, 2017, according to a McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office motion filed shortly after Long’s arrest.
Investigators found paraphernalia near Koivisto’s body that tested positive for the presence of heroin and fentanyl, the motion stated.
A search of his phone revealed that Koivisto and Long had arranged a drug deal Sept. 21, 2017. Long also confessed to witnesses that she gave Koivisto heroin that day, according to the motion.
In exchange for her plea, prosecutors dismissed a Class X drug-induced homicide charge as well as controlled substance and drug paraphernalia possession charges stemming from a separate 2016 case.
Long previously received a sentence of court supervision for a 2015 marijuana delivery charge.
