Lansing man arrested in connection with stabbing at NIU residence hall

DeKALB – An 18-year-old Lansing man was arrested Sunday in connection with a Saturday night stabbing at a Northern Illinois University residence hall.

According to a news release from NIU police, Abdul R. O. Danyiwo was arrested by Lansing police on charges of aggravated battery and burglary in connection with an attack that was reported at 9:39 p.m. Saturday at Grant North C Tower, 1250 Grant Drive North, DeKalb.

Police said Danyiwo was involved in an altercation with a man, during which he stabbed the victim several times before running away.

The victim was taken to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries, police said.

It was not a random attack, however.

Police said Danyiwo knew the
victim, and the altercation between them was the result of an ongoing dispute.

Neither the attacker nor the victim were students of the university or affiliated with the school, according to the release.

Police said Danyiwo was charged with burglary because he entered the building with the intent to commit a crime.

If convicted of the most serious charge, burglary, Danyiwo could face four to 15 years in prison.

Aggravated battery is punishable by two to five years in prison.
