DIXON – Thomas N. Tegge, 85, of Dixon, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018, at The Reserve of Geneva.
He was born Dec. 28, 1932, in Watseka, the son of Harold E. and Mary Wilma (Northrup) Tegge. Tom received his bachelor’s degree from Butler University and his master’s degree from DePauw University. He taught history at Oak Park-River Forest High School from 1960 to 1992, then taught at Sauk Valley Community College from 1992 to 2012. Tom was a veteran of the Air Force, and served from 1955 to 1958, and attained the rank of captain.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon, Dixon Elks Lodge 790, and Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Tom married Shirley Joyal Nov. 3, 1956. in Indianapolis. She preceded him in death on Jan. 10, 2004, as did his grandson, Colin Marciniak, on July 21, 2009.
He is survived by his children, Scott (Kristi) Tegge of Geneva, Mark (Judy) Tegge of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, Jeff (Nancy) Tegge of Geneva, Wendy (Butch Smith) Taylor of Webb Lake, Wisconsin, Mike (Natalie) Tegge of Gilbert, Arizona, and Katy (Chad) Radcliff of Plainfield; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He also is survived by a sister, Susan Skeoch of Florida.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Monday, and the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon. Burial with military honors by the Dixon Combined Veterans Group will follow at Daysville Cemetery in rural Oregon.
