Eight area wrestlers competed for titles at Harvard's Sciacca/Holtfreter Tournament, with four capturing championships in the 15-team tournament Saturday.
Prairie Ridge seniors Trey Piotrowski (138 pounds) and Drake Regenhardt (152) took home titles for the third straight year. Sophomore Bryce Fiegel (106) and freshman Nik Jimenez both won championships for Harvard. Fiegel is now 17-0 and Jimenez is 18-0.
Rock Falls won the team title with 203.5 points, and Grayslake Central (181.5) placed second. Woodstock North (119.5) placed sixth, Prairie Ridge (109) was seventh and host Harvard (106) took eighth.
Richmond-Burton's Dalton Wood was second at 160 pounds, Johnsburg's Justin Peake was second at 182 pounds, Harvard's Nathan Rosas was second at 195 pounds, and North's Ed Flores was second at 152 pounds.
Placing third were North's Connor Reyes (106), Carter Miller (120) and Sean Jaco (285), Harvard's Uriel Herrera (113), Prairie Ridge's Tommy Evans (170) and Kyle Koelblinger (182), and Johnsburg's Ethan Shedbalkar (152).
Taking fourth were North's Jack Foster (113) and Hunter Goetz (145), Richmond-Burton's Connor Lucas (126), and Johnsburg's Jack Clauson (160).
Niles West Invite: At Niles, Jake Harrier (132) and Ryan Golnick (195) placed first to lead Jacobs to a runner-up finish in the 24-team tournament. Barrington won with 480.5 points, followed by the Golden Eagles (403).
Harrier (14-0) beat Oswego's Zach Sato by technical fall, 15-0, at 132 pounds, moving to 14-0 on the season. Golnick (10-2) won by technical fall, 16-0, over Bartlett's Joey Vinson at 195 pounds.
Also for Jacobs, Justin Peters was runner-up at 120 pounds, and Tanner Ward (106) and John Ridle (145) took third.
Yorkville Quad: At Yorkville, Crystal Lake Central's Brock Montford and Caden Ernd each finished 3-0 for Central, who went 2-1. The Tigers beat Fenwick, 61-6, and Yorkville, 51-28, and fell to St. Charles East, 47-26.
Montford picked up two pins and a decision, and Ernd had a pin and two major decisions. One of Montford's wins was over Yorkville's Nick Stemmet, ranked No. 2 at 182 pounds in Class 3A by Illinois Matmen. Stephen Bushy recorded two pins for Central.
Mundelein Quad: At Mundelein, Marian Central (10-0) stayed undefeated with wins over Libertyville, 36-27, Stagg, 51-18, and Mundelein, 48-22.
Thor Paglialong (5-0) recorded three pins for the Hurricanes. Also going 3-0 were Elon Rodriguez (17-0), Josh Glover (16-0), Dylan Connell (16-2) and Bryce Shelton (14-4).
Marmion Quad: At Aurora, Huntley dropped all three matches, falling to 13-4. The Red Raiders lost to Marmion, 46-29, Montini, 54-12, and Detroit Catholic Central (Michigan), 41-25. Montini and Marmion are the top two ranked Class 3A teams in the state by Illinois Matmen.
David Ferrante (170) and Matt Burba (285) both went 2-1 for Huntley with two pins. Sam Spencer (126) was 2-1 with two major decisions.
McHenry Quad: At McHenry, Aidan Ferguson (195 pounds) went 2-0 with a pin and a technical fall, 17-2, as the Warriors swept all three matches to move to 5-10. McHenry beat Proviso East, 45-20, South Elgin, 41-28, and Dwight, 42-21.
Rocky Piehl (132 pounds) was 2-1 with two pins.
Stillman Valley Invite: At Stillman Valley, Dundee-Crown had 10 top-five finishers and placed second overall. Jordan Lescaleet had the top finish for the Chargers, taking runner-up at 160 pounds. Isaac Mayer (106), Amairie Jones (126), Gabriel Scales (138), Colin Mays (152), Wyatt Griggel (182) and Carter Fitch (195) all placed third.
Marengo's Joe Resendez (113) placed second, losing in overtime. Cameron Miller (145) took third, and Logan Reed (120) and Stan Dawiec (160) were fourth for the Indians.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Marengo 50, Prairie Ridge 41: At Richmond, Marissa Knobloch scored a game-high 22 points with three 3s to lead Marengo against Prairie Ridge in the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic opener for both teams. Knobloch was 7 of 7 from the free-throw line. Jordan Parker scored 15 points for the Indians.
Maddy Ljunggren made five 3s for 15 points for the Wolves. Sam Gablenz added eight points and Karsen Karlblom had seven.
Marian Central 48, McHenry 43: At McHenry, Janelle Allen and Amber Reynolds led Marian with 11 points apiece in a win over McHenry in the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic. Reynolds was 6 of 6 from the free-throw line. Regan Dineen scored 10 points, and Lindsey Bahl scored nine for the Hurricanes.
McHenry's Izzy Gscheidle had a game-high 19 points with two 3s, passing 1,000 career points in the loss. Gscheidle went 7 of 8 from the free-throw line. Ashley Wachter and Katie Beyer scored 10 points apiece. Wachter had three 3s.
Lakes 42, Richmond-Burton 37: At Richmond, Peyton Bannon scored a team-high 15 points with three 3s for R-B in a loss in the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic. Kasey Miller had 13 points and two 3s, and Kayly Hogan scored six points for the Rockets.
Johnsburg 55, Crystal Lake South 48: At McHenry, Morgan Madsen had a game-high 25 points on 11 field goals for Johnsburg in a win over South at the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic. Megan Madsen added 17 points and hit five 3s, and Katelyn Davis scored six for the Skyhawks.
Maddie Scharrenberg scored 20 points on 10 field goals, and Emily Rich had nine points on three 3s for the Gators.
Crystal Lake Central 49, Woodstock 32: At Richmond, Cori Hamill scored 11 points to lead Central in its Northern Illinois Holiday Classic opener. Paige Keller and Emma Fleming had eight points apiece, and Maddie Haslow and Lindsey Douros had seven each for the Tigers, who went 10 of 11 from the free-throw line.
Emma Brand led Woodstock with 12 points and two 3s. Nichole Piquette added seven points and Erin Lockwood had six.
Belvidere 56, Woodstock North 44: At McHenry, Abby Hartmann scored 18 points with two 3s in a loss for the Thunder in the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic. Katelynn Ward scored seven points and Taylor Prerost had six.
Marengo 49, Wauconda 33: At Richmond, Knobloch led Marengo with 19 points, hitting three 3s in a win over Wauconda. Parker scored 12 points for the Indians (9-4, 2-0 Pool B), Jennifer Heinberg had seven points and two 3s, and Erin Haeflinger tossed in six points.
McHenry 64, Belvidere 32: At McHenry, Wachter scored a game-high 17 points and knocked down five 3s to lead McHenry past Belvidere. Gscheidle scored 15 points with five 3s, Jamie Howie scored 10 points, and Katie Beyer added nine for the Warriors (8-5, 1-1 Pool C).
Crystal Lake Central 43, Lakes 28: At Richmond, Haslow led Central with 13 points and three 3s in a win over Lakes. Nora Ryan scored nine points, and Cori Hamill tossed in eight for the Tigers (9-2, 2-0 Pool A).
DeKalb 59, Crystal Lake South 34: At McHenry, Scharrenberg scored a team-high 12 points for South in a loss to DeKalb. Rich added seven points for the Gators (3-9, 0-2 Pool D).
Prairie Ridge 43, Hoffman Estates 32: At Richmond, Karly Statter scored 16 points on the strength of three 3s for Prairie Ridge in a victory over Hoffman Estates. Karlblom added 13 points, going 6 of 8 from the free-throw line, for the Wolves (6-7, 1-1 Pool B).
Round Lake 57, Johnsburg 53: At McHenry, Morgan Madsen scored 20 points with two 3s to lead Johnsburg. Megan Madsen had 13 points and two 3s for the Skyhawks (7-6, 1-1 Pool D), and Mackenzie Straulin scored 12 points, going 6 of 6 from the free-throw line.
Richmond-Burton 40, Woodstock 30: At Richmond, Bannon had 16 points and hit 5 of 6 free throws for R-B in a win over Woodstock. Miller scored 10 points with two 3s, Hogan scored seven, and Katie Otto tossed in six for the Rockets (5-6, 1-1 Pool A).
Lockwood scored nine points, and Brand had seven for the Blue Streaks (2-10, 0-2).
Dundee-Crown 45, Lockport 37: At Oak Lawn, D-C beat Lockport to take third place in the Oak Lawn Holiday Tournament. The Chargers went 3-1 in the tournament and are 10-3, going 6-1 over the past nine days.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Hampshire 77, Prairie Ridge 54: At Hampshire, Collin Woods scored a team-high 20 points on eight baskets for Hampshire in a Fox Valley Conference win over Prairie Ridge. J.D Shaw scored 14 points and was 6 of 6 from the free-throw line.
Jeremy Rosa scored 10 points, Jackson Milison and Justin Anderson had seven points apiece, and Kyle Johnson had two 3s for his only points for the Whip-Purs (5-4, 4-1).
Michael Patterson was the high scorer with 24 points, including four 3s, for the Wolves (0-10, 0-5). Jared Lindquist and Ryan Fist each had eight points and Tim Cook added six.
Huntley 53, Jacobs 47: At Algonquin, Uchenna Egekeze led the Raiders with 12 points in an FVC over Jacobs (4-6, 1-3). Davis Pasco and Ryan Sroka scored 10 points each, Nathan Draper had eight, and Patrick Roppolo had seven for Huntley (6-3, 3-2). Ryan Crosby tossed in six.
Woodstock 90, South Beloit 30: At Woodstock, all 15 players scored for the Streaks in a nonconference win over South Beloit. Andrew Adams led the way with 14 points and four 3s for Woodstock (4-5), Evan Bridges had 13 points and four 3s, and Andy Princer tossed in 11 points.
Blake Shallebarger and Nate Archambeau scored seven points apiece, and Liam Spear had two 3s for his only points. The Streaks made 14 3s.
Carmel 74, Richmond-Burton 32: At Mundelein, the Rockets (2-8) dropped the nonconference game to the Corsairs.
GIRLS GYMNASTICS
Homewood-Flossmoor Invitational: At Homewood, Prairie Ridge co-op took third in the nine-team meet and freshman Sydney Hallsten took third all-around with 35.15 points.
Neuqua Valley won the meet with 133.15, Lemont was second at 127.0 and Prairie Ridge was third with 125.55.
Hallsten won the uneven bars (9.0), was second in vault (92) and tied for fourth in floor exercise (8.8).
Katie McEnery was seventh all-around with 33.65. She took fifth on uneven bars (8.4), tied for sixth on vault (8.5) and tied for seventh in floor exercise (8.6).
Two of the Wolves’ top competitors, Maddy Kim and Gracie Willis, had competed in a meet Friday and were rested for Saturday’s meet.
GIRLS BOWLING
DeKalb Holiday Invite: At Mardi Gras Lanes in DeKalb, Dundee-Crown senior Alexis Orwat bowled a school-record 1,321 in a six-game series for the Chargers (average of 220), including a high game of 288.
