PHOENIX – Karen Ann Koehler-Dunsworth of Phoenix, passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2018.
Karen was born April 15, 1958, in Amboy, the daughter of Kenneth and Lois Koehler. Both parents preceded her in death.
Before moving to Phoenix in 2016, Karen’s 27-year nursing career at CGH Medical Center in Sterling allowed her to be affiliated with several departments as a registered nurse – emergency department, nursing supervisor, ambulatory-outpatient surgery, staff development coordinator and digestive health center nurse.
Karen also was an adjunct faculty-instructor (RN-MSN) at Sauk Valley Community College for 14 years, as a clinical instructor for the online nursing program, and student educator-teacher for radiology technology students.
She obtained her associate degree in nursing in Miami, then went on to obtain her bachelor’s at University of Illinois – Chicago and a Master of Science at Northern Illinois University.
Karen is survived by one daughter, Alysha (Jeremy Wilson) Dunsworth of Glendale, Arizona; two sisters, Sheila (Don) Clayton and Judy Koehler-Gabelmann, both of Amboy; one brother, Steve (Sandi) Brown of Evansville Indiana; lifelong friend, Rebecca (Rick Roeing) Donna of Rutland; nieces, Erin (Greg) Welker of Byron and Karli (Matt Schmitt) Gabelmann of Rock Falls; and nephew, Lucas Gabelmann of Amboy.
A private celebration of life for immediate family to honor her was Dec. 23.
She will forever be missed by those who knew and loved her, and will be remembered for her never-ending generosity, her laugh and her beautiful smile that would light up a room.
A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society and local animal shelter.
