High school sports roundup for Thursday, Jan. 10

Jonny Preston scored nine of his 12 points in the fourth quarter to help Johnsburg hold off Richmond-Burton, 65-61, in their Kishwaukee River Conference boys basketball game Thursday in Johnsburg.

The Skyhawks (9-5, 3-0) were led by Gibson Groves with 24 points. Johnsburg’s leading scorer Zach Toussaint, who was averaging 27.8 points a game, was held to 12. Toussaint had two 3-pointers in the first half, but scored only at the free-throw line in the second half.

Jeff Jankowski led R-B (5-11, 1-2) with 26 points, 13 of which came in the fourth quarter as the Rockets were trying to catch up. He hit both of his 3s in that quarter.

Logan Hutson added eight for R-B, all in the first quarter when he hit a pair of 3s.

Burlington Central 70, Woodstock 50: At Woodstock, Andrew Adams led the Blue Streaks (7-9, 1-1) with 17 points in their KRC loss to the Rockets (11-4, 2-0).

Evan Bridges added 12 points for Woodstock.

Alden-Hebron 44, Hiawatha 20: At Hebron, Gideon Schauret scored his career-best 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Giants (7-6) defeated the Hawks.

Brad Judson added eight points, seven rebounds, five assists, five steals and two blocked shots for A-H. Mikey Ellison had eight points and six rebounds, and Kyle Judson had five assists.

The Giants were coming off a loss and coach Tim Lenckus called the win “Our best performance of the season.”

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Marengo 47, Genoa-Kingston 19: At Marengo, Jordan Parker scored nine of her 11 points in the second quarter as the Indians (15-5) rolled past the Cogs in their nonconference game.

Marissa Knobloch scored 13 points to lead Marengo. Jennifer Heinberg added nine on three 3s.

Alden-Hebron 45, Schaumburg Christian 35: At Schaumburg, Eden Wanderer hit 6-of-6 free throws and scored 16 points to lead the Giants (14-3, 3-0) past the Conquerors.

Rachel Pahl added 11 points, and Kylee Winter scored seven for the Giants.

WRESTLING

Lakes triangular: At Lake Villa, the Marian Central (17-0) defeated Lakes, 72-3, and Antioch, 33-26, to remain undefeated for the season.

Marian is No. 2 in the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association rankings. Antioch is 10th.

Harvard triangular: At Harvard, the host Hornets defeated Johnsburg, 54-27, in one match and fell to Burlington Central, 39-34, in the other match.

Uriel Herrera won two matches on the mat with a major decision against Burlington (at 120 pounds) and a pin against Johnsburg (at 113).

The Hornets got a lead early against Burlington, but the Rockets dominated the heavier weights with four pins for the victory.

Against Burlington, Harvard got other pins from Chase Bieschke (138) and Jesus Marquez (160). Ivan Rosas (120), NIk Jimenez (126), Nathan Rosas (220) and Luis Roman (285) got pins against Johnsburg.

Winners for Johnsburg against Harvard were Trent Brock (145), Ethan Shedbalker (152) and Jack Clausen (160).

GIRLS BOWLING

Huntley 2,367, McHenry 1,789: At Huntley, Cassie Lugo rolled three games better than 160 pins each for a 505 series to lead the Red Raiders to a victory over the Warriors.

Huntley’s top four bowlers finished within 34 pins of each other. Jen Spielman rolled a 494 series, with a 185 high game. Gen Porsche had the Raiders’ high game at 191 and a 479 series, and Abby Matula had a 185 game and a 471 series.
