Cary-Grove's co-op boys swimming team won three of four relays Saturday to capture the team title at the Jefferson J-Hawk Invitational in Rockford.
Cary-Grove co-op won the 12-team meet with 261.5 points. DeKalb-Sycamore co-op (201.5 points) finished second, Woodstock North co-op (136.5) was fourth, and McHenry (62) was ninth.
Ben Castro, Hunter Jackson, Peyton Richardson and Cameron Castro took first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:40.74. Ben Castro, Jackson, Cameron Castro and Kolin Fadden won the 200 free relay (1:31.19), and Kameron Fadden, Cole Seeger, Michael Bartczyszyn and Kolin Fadden took first in the 400 free relay (3:21.56).
Also for C-G co-op, Peyton Richardson was first in the 200 IM (2:03.43) and Hunter Jackson (1:03.14) was first in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.14). Woodstock North co-op's Quinn Cynor was first in the 200 free (1:41.51) and 100 backstroke (51.18).
BOYS BOWLING
Belvidere North Regional: At Cherry Bowl in Rockford, Woodstock co-op's Brandon Dodaro and David Kruse and McHenry's Dalton Atwater and Meier Glab advanced to next week's Jefferson Sectional at Don Carter Lanes in Rockford.
Dodaro recorded the 11th-best score, bowling a 1,236 six-game series with a high game of 225. Atwater had a 1,224 series with a high of 246, Glab had a 1,204 series with a high of 217, and Kruse had a 1,094 series with a high of 225.
McHenry (5,613) finished sixth as a team, Woodstock co-op (5,232) took eighth, and Marengo (5,024) was ninth. The top four teams advance to sectionals.
DeKalb Regional: At Mardi Gras Lanes in DeKalb, Huntley's Jerik Alcasid and Joe Kern advanced to the Jefferson Sectional as the Red Raiders took seventh out of 11 teams. Alcasid, who was 12th overall, rolled a 1,211 series with a high of 228. Kern had a 1,183 series with a high of 210. Huntley finished with a 5,202.
Gurnee Warren Regional: At Bertrand Lanes in Waukegan, no local bowlers made it through to sectionals. Johnsburg was 10th with a 5,028.
WRESTLING
Batavia Invitational: At Batavia, Marian Central won the 20-team tournament, beating Batavia, 199-169. Josh Glover (106 pounds), Elon Rodriguez (113) and Dylan Connell (160) finished first for Marian. Lou Gaddy (195) was second, Daniel Valeria (132) was third, and Scott Burke (126) was fourth.
Johnsburg's Justin Peake won the 182-pound title, and McHenry's Brody Hallin was runner-up at 138.
Carl Sandburg duals: At Orland Park, Crystal Lake Central went 3-0 with wins over Joliet West, 36-33, South Elgin, 62-12, and New Trier, 48-17. Caden Ernd went 3-0 with three pins at 152 pounds, and Stephen Bushy (170) was 3-0 with two pins and a technical fall for the Tigers (15-6).
Rocco Carone (132) had two pins.
Kaneland Invitational: At Maple Park, Woodstock North's Conor Reyes (106), Isaiah Vela (138) and Ed Flores (152) finished first for the Thunder, who took fourth overall. Henry Goetz (145) and Sean Jaco (285) each were runner-up, Jack Foster (113) was third, and Ben Brucker (182) was fourth.
Stevenson quad: At Lincolnshire, Huntley finished 3-0 with wins over Yorkville, 51-26,, Stevenson, 44-28, and Deerfield, 36-29. Andrew Lira (132) and David Ferrante (170) both went 3-0 with three pins, and Joaquin Miranda (145) was 3-0 with two pins. Sam Spencer (126) also went 3-0.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Cary-Grove 54, Prairie Ridge 27: At Crystal Lake, Beau Frericks scored 18 points and was 7-of-7 shooting from the free-throw line in an Fox Valley Conference victory for the Trojans (13-5, 5-3 FVC). David Aulert added 10 points, Daniel Sowa had six points on two 3s, and Frank Jakubicek tossed in five points.
Jared Lindquist scored 10 points to lead the Wolves (1-17, 0-8). Tim Cook added eight.
Crystal Lake Central 52, McHenry 27: At McHenry, the Tigers (12-5, 6-1) defeated the Warriors (1-16, 1-7) to stay a game ahead of Dundee-Crown in the FVC standings. Huntley is 1 1/2 games back.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Wilmot 76, Johnsburg 66: At Wilmot, Wisconsin, Johnsburg senior Megan Madsen went over 1,000 career points in a nonconference loss for the Skyhawks (11-9).
Woodstock North 57, Harvard 35: At Harvard, Taylor Prerost had a team-high 17 points and seven assists to lead the Thunder past the Hornets in Kishwaukee River Conference play. Katelynn Ward had a double-double for North (10-11, 3-4) with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Dinah Harter had eight points, Lauren Shafer had seven, and Emma Ackland had six points and nine rebounds for Harvard (1-17, 0-9).
Bartlett 49, Huntley 32: At Bartlett, Kamsi Nwogu scored a team-leading 12 points in a nonconference loss for the Red Raiders (6-13). Missy Moffett, Anna Seng and Ashlyn Brown added four points apiece.
Dixon 54, Woodstock 26: At Dixon, Erin Lockwood had 12 points and eight rebounds in a nonconference loss for the Blue Streaks (4-18).
Marian Central 46, Indian Creek 38: At Woodstock, the Hurricanes (9-11) ended their five-game losing streak.
GIRLS GYMNASTICS
Neuqua Valley Invitational: At Naperville, the Prairie Ridge co-op gymnastics team took first with 143.575 points and won every individual event except the all-around.
Maddy Kim won on vault (9.5), uneven bars (9.3) and floor exercise (9.35) and was second in the all-around at 36.975. Gracie Willis was third in the all-around at 36.775 and fourth on vault (9.4), fourth on bars (9.15) and second on floor (9.325). Sydney Hallsten won the balance beam (9.3).
