High school sports roundup for Wednesday, Jan. 16

McHenry senior Izzy Gscheidle scored 12 of her-team high 15 points in the fourth quarter Wednesday as the Warriors rallied to beat Jacobs, 47-42, in Fox Valley Conference action in McHenry.

McHenry (16-8, 7-3) trailed Jacobs, 31-25, going into the fourth quarter. Gscheidle made two of her three 3-pointers in the last eight minutes and accounted for 12 of her team's last 22 points.

Katie Beyer added 13 points, Ava Interrante had 11 points, and Ashley Wachter tossed in five for McHenry. Liz Schwartz had a game-high 16 points and three 3s for the Golden Eagles (3-17, 0-10), Kyra Cabusao scored 15 points, and Courtney Pahl had nine points and two 3s.

Nazareth Academy 59, Marian Central 25: At La Grange Park, the Hurricanes (9-13, 1-2 ESCC) dropped the East Suburban Catholic Conference game to last season's Class 3A state runner-up.

Dundee-Crown 53, Prairie Ridge 27: At Carpentersville, the Chargers (17-6, 9-1) moved a 1/2 game ahead of Hampshire in the FVC with a win against the Wolves (9-12, 2-8).

Alden-Hebron 31, Durand 28: At Durand, Kylee Winter scored 11 points as the Giants beat the Bulldogs for their seventh straight win. Kendra Cashmore and Eden Wanderer had six points apiece, and Rachel Pahl had five for A-H (16-3).

BOYS BASKETBALL

Waubonsie Valley 53, Johnsburg 46: At Burlington, Zach Toussaint hit six 3s and scored 34 of the Skyhawks' points as they fell to the Warriors at Burlington Central's Martin Luther King Classic.

Johnsburg (9-7) led 44-40 heading into the fourth quarter, but Jacob Gutierrez’s basket was all the Skyhawks could get in that period.

Toussaint scored 13 points in the third quarter as the Skyhawks grabbed their four-point lead.

The Warriors (15-2) were led by Marcus Skeete with 21points and Eric Cannon with 14.

Lyons 60, Hampshire 47: At the Burlington Central MLK Classic, Collin Woods had a game-high 21 points, but the Whip-Purs (12-8) dropped their tournament opener. Jackson Milison added 10 points and two 3s, and Nick Erickson tossed in six points.

Burlington Central 64, McHenry 37: At the Burlington Central MLK Classic, the Warriors (1-18) lost to the host Rockets (12-4) in their tournament opener. Adam Benton, Brian March and Jake Evans each scored eight points for McHenry. Evans hit two 3s.

Oregon 71, Harvard 46: At Oregon, Andrew Cooke led the Hornets (9-9) with 17 points in a nonconference loss to the Hawks. Jahkari Miller had six points, and Damon Mueller and Sergio Fuentes had five points apiece.

Tuesday's late result

Richmond-Burton 56, North Boone 42: At Richmond, Jeff Jankowski scored 19 points to lead the Rockets in a nonconference win. Luke Uhwat had nine points, Jimmy Horner had eight points and two 3s, and Payton May had five points for R-B (6-11).

WRESTLING

Richmond-Burton 44, Harvard 30: At Harvard, Caleb Gunderson (132 pounds), Rene Herrera (152), Michael Drdla (160), Dalton Wood (170), Brock Wood (182) and Josh Dumont (220) all had pins in a Kishwaukee River Conference victory for the Rockets.

Chase Duncan (138) and Jonah Braden (145) both picked up major decisions for R-B. Bryce Fiegel (106) recorded Harvard's lone pin, Nik Jimenez (126) won by major decision, Uriel Herrera (120) won by technical fall, and Nathan Rosas (195) won by decision.

Woodstock Triangular: At Woodstock, Hampshire's Christian Rivero (126) and Palmer Larson (132) were bumped up a weight class, each finishing 2-0. The Whip-Purs fell to Woodstock, 42-16, and Guilford, 33-30.

Hampshire won four of five matches against Woodstock but forfeited the rest. The Blue Streaks defeated Guilford, 48-30.
